Welcome to Jupiter!
Teacher: Mr Davies
LSA: Miss Yarwood
In Jupiter we are hard-working and resilient learners. We will strive to develop our growth mind-sets to ensure we always do our best. Our classroom is a positive, respectful and enjoyable place to be.
Things to remember:
PE days are Wednesday and Friday.
This term we will be exploring Geography. Year 6 are focusing on environmental issues linked to sea ice, glaciers and global warming - linked to the SDGs. We will be covering skills using maps, atlas and Google Maps. We will also be exploring geographical language and developing our orienteering skills. Throughout the term we will be independently applying and combining our skills.
In English this term, we will be looking at a non-chronological report and a balanced argument. We will be covering skills such as fronted adverbials, relative clauses and parenthesis. In Reading, we will be working through our VIPERS skills, focusing on one each week. Children bring their reading records home each day to record their reading at home. Spellings will be given out each week (which will be stuck into their reading records) these need practising at home and will be tested on a Friday.
In the first half-term we will be looking at place value with numbers up to 10,000,000. The children will then move on to using the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division). We will be using the Power Maths programme which is a mastery approach encouraging children to apply their skills to a variety of problem solving questions. To give children time to consolidate their Maths skills, they will also do Fluent in 5 (which is 5 arithmetic questions in 5 minutes) and an extended arithmetic.
Our science topics this year will be:
- Living things and their habitats
- Animals, including humans
- Evolution and inheritance
The children will work scientifically by:
- Planning and conducting investigations
- Making predictions
- Record their results
- Evaluating their findings
