Things to remember:
PE days are Monday and Friday.
Swimming is on Wednesday.
This term we will be looking at the Roman Empire and how its influences can still be felt in this country today – specifically in our local area. We will be covering key skills used by historians to uncover and understand the past. We will be going on a trip to Colchester Castle to explore our local Roman history experience. Later in the term we will be applying the skills we have learnt to the British Empire and continuing to explore the Roman’s in independent stage 3 projects.
In English this term, we will be looking at a non-chronological report and a balanced argument. We will be covering skills such as fronted adverbials, relative clauses and parenthesis. In Reading, we will be working through our VIPERS skills, focussing on one each week. Children bring their reading records home each day to record their reading at home. Spellings will be given out each week (which will be stuck into their reading records) these need practising at home and will be tested on a Friday.
In the first half-term we will be looking at place value with numbers up to 10,000,000. The children will then move on to using the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division). We will be using the Power Maths programme which is a mastery approach encouraging children to apply their skills to a variety of problem solving questions. To give children time to consolidate their Maths skills, they will also do Fluent in 5 (which is 5 arithmetic questions in 5 minutes) and an extended arithmetic.
