Sustainable Development Goal Focus
This term we are focusing on Geography. We will be exploring Physical and Human characteristics of a place, learning the features of a volcano and using digital maps to help us build a picture of a place allowing us to compare two locations.
In English this term, we will be looking at descriptive writing, newspaper reports, persuasive letters and non chronological report. We will be covering skills such as expanded noun phrases, commas in a list, sentence starters and adverbials.
In Reading, we will be working through our VIPERS skills, focusing on one each week. Children will bring their reading records home each day to record their reading at home. We will also be giving projects on Myon. This will be stuck in their reading records and given out weekly.
Spellings will be given out each week, which will be stuck in their reading records, these need practising at home and will be tested on a Friday.
In Maths, we will be using the White Rose programme, which is mastery approach programme which encourages and sparks curiosity and excitement while giving children opportunities to apply their skills to a variety of problem solving questions.
This half-term in Maths we will be covering the following:
- Read and write numbers up to 1,000 in numerals and words
- Multiply and divide 2 digits by 1 digit (with and without exchange)
- Converting pounds and pence
- Add and subtract money
- Giving change
- Measuring lengths
- Equivalent lengths (mm-cm/ cm- m)
- Add and subtract lengths
- Calculate and measure perimeter.
Arithmetic will be consolidated by using Fluent in 5. A set of 5 arithmetic questions which are answered in 5 minutes.
This year in Science we will be covering:
- Animals including Humans
- Forces and Magnets
We will work scientifically by:
- Planning and predicting
- Carrying out investigations
- Recording and classifying
- Reviewing and evaluating
