In Neptune we are hard-working and resilient learners. We will strive to develop our growth mind-sets to ensure we always do our best. Our classroom is a positive, respectful and enjoyable place to be.
Things to remember:
PE days are Wednesday and Friday.
Active wear days are Wednesday and Friday.
Water bottles, books and reading records are needed everyday.
This term we will be exploring Geography. Year 6 are focusing on environmental issues linked to sea ice, glaciers and global warming - linked to the SDGs. We will be covering skills using maps, atlas and Google Maps. We will also be exploring geographical language and developing our orienteering skills. Throughout the term we will be independently applying and combing our skills.
This half term in Maths we will cover the following:
- Place value
Read, write, order and compare numbers up to 10, 000,000 and determine the value of each digit.
- Addition and subtraction
Perform mental calculations, including with mixed operations and large numbers.
- Multiplication and division
Divide numbers up to 4 digits by a two-digit number using the formal written method of short division.
We will be using the Power Maths programme which is a mastery approach encouraging children to apply their skills to a variety of problem solving questions. To give children time to consolidate their Maths skills, they will also do Fluent in 5 (which is 5 arithmetic questions in 5 minutes) and an extended arithmetic.
In English this term, we will be looking at an explanation text, instruction text and short story. We will be covering skills such as fronted adverbials, relative clauses and parenthesis.
In Reading, we will be working through our VIPERS skills, focusing on one each week.
Our class book:
Children bring their reading records home each day to record their reading at home. Spellings will be given out each week (which will be stuck into their reading records) these need practising at home and will be tested on a Friday.
Our science topics this year will be:
- Living things and their habitats
- Animals, including humans
- Evolution and inheritance
The children will work scientifically by:
- Planning and conducting investigations
- Making predictions
- Record their results
- Evaluating their findings
