Welcome to Apollo Class
Teacher: Mrs Knight

Apollo class is a community of diverse and resilient learners. We strive to ensure that our classroom is a kind, caring environment that celebrates and learns from difference. All children in Apollo class are readers and we are learning that reading for pleasure is the key to successful reading.

Reading book and diary
Wednesday and Thursday
Autumn: Through the Ages
Spring: Rocks, Relics and Rumbles
Summer: Emperors and Empires
During the course of year 3, we will be writing for a variety of different purposes. These will include: Descriptive writing, newspaper reports, persuasive letters, and non-chronological reports. We will be covering skills such as expanded noun phrases, apostrophes, fronted adverbials and inverted commas.
In reading, we will be building fluency through expression, pace and confidence, whilst continuing to apply decoding skills taught in phonics. We will be working through our viper skills and securing the children’s ability to retrieve information and make inferences from a wide and varied range of texts.
All children have a reading book, tailored to their reading level and we encourage children to have a separate book to read for pleasure. A reading record is provide and we encourage parent and carers to record their children's
reading in this weekly.
In Maths, we will be using the White Rose programme, a mastery approach programme which encourages and sparks curiosity and excitement while giving children opportunities to apply their skills to a variety of problem solving and reasoning questions.
We will continue to secure the children's fluency in their 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables and begin to embed their understanding of multiplying and dividing by 4,7 and 8.
The expectation is that children use the online learning platform, Times Tables Rockstars at home to consolidate their learning and practice their fluency.
This year in Science we will be covering:
- Animals including Humans
- Forces and Magnets
We will work scientifically by:
- Planning and predicting
- Carrying out investigations
