English
During the course of year 3, we will be writing for a variety of different purposes. These will include: Descriptive writing, newspaper reports, persuasive letters, and non-chronological reports. We will be covering skills such as expanded noun phrases, apostrophes, fronted adverbials and inverted commas.
In reading, we will be building fluency through expression, pace and confidence, whilst continuing to apply decoding skills taught in phonics. We will be working through our viper skills and securing the children’s ability to retrieve information and make inferences from a wide and varied range of texts.
All children have a reading book, tailored to their reading level and we encourage children to have a separate book to read for pleasure. A reading record is provide and we encourage parent and carers to record their children's
reading in this weekly.
Spellings will be given out each week, which will be stuck in their reading records, these need practising at home and will be tested the following week.
Maths
In Maths, we will be using the White Rose programme, a mastery approach programme which encourages and sparks curiosity and excitement while giving children opportunities to apply their skills to a variety of problem solving and reasoning questions.
We will continue to secure the children's fluency in their 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables and begin to embed their understanding of multiplying and dividing by 4,7 and 8.
The expectation is that children use the online learning platform, Times Tables Rockstars at home to consolidate their learning and practice their fluency.
