In Neptune, we are hard-working, supportive and resilient learners. We strive to develop our growth mind-sets to ensure we always do our best. Our classroom is a positive, respectful and enjoyable place to be.

Things to remember:

PE days are Monday and Thursday. Children arrive in school wearing 'active wear'.

Daily equipment - water bottle (no metal please) and reading record.

English

In English this term, we are writing a fantasy narrative inspired by the short film 'Eye of the storm, followed by a persuasive advert linked to our Geography project 'Frozen Kingdoms'. We will be recapping KS2 grammar, punctuation and spelling, as well as developing the use of figurative language (such as similes, metaphors and personification). In Reading, we will continue to explore a range of texts and develop our comprehension through VIPERS skills (vocabulary, inference, prediction, explain, retrieve and summarise)

Our class book this term is 'When the Sky Falls'.

Children bring their reading records home each day to record their reading at home. Spellings are given out each week and are tested on a Thursday.

Maths

In the first half-term, we are continuing with fractions - learning how to multiply and divide - before moving on to comparing fractions, decimals and percentages. We use the White Rose programme and a mastery approach, which encourages children to apply their skills via concrete, pictorial and abstract methods. To give children time to consolidate their Maths skills, they will also practice their arithmetic skills and times table skills every week.

Science

Our science topics this term is Electrical Circuits and Components.  This project teaches children about electrical circuits, their components and how they function. They recognise how the voltage of cells affects the output of a circuit and record circuits using standard symbols. It also teaches children about programmable devices, sensors and monitoring. They combine their learning to design and make programmable home devices.

The children will work scientifically by:

• Planning and conducting investigations
• Making predictions
• Record their results
• Evaluating their findings

Geography

In Geography this term, pupils will be exploring the Polar regions through the Frozen Kingdoms project.  This project teaches children about the characteristics and features of polar regions, including the North and South Poles, and includes a detailed exploration of the environmental factors that shape and influence them.

Homework

Homework is set weekly on Fridays and is due on Wednesdays. Homework provides the opportunity for children to develop their organisational skills as independent learners.  Homework consists of short maths and grammar tasks, which consolidate that week's learning, weekly spelling practice and regular reading.
